Question:
What is a normal Body Mass Index?
The reference range for normal weight according to the World Health Organization (WHO) is between 18.5 and 24.9 (often rounded to 25).
A BMI of 25 or higher is classified as overweight, and a BMI of 30 or higher is defined as obesity (overweight).
A BMI below 18.5 is considered underweight. However, BMI does not fully reflect body composition, meaning the distribution of fat mass and muscle mass. For example, a BMI of 27 in a muscular man does not necessarily mean the condition obesity.
Your treatment team at Yazen evaluates your body composition by assessing photographs and waist circumference, in addition to height and weight.
