Wegovy pill price: How much will the new medication cost?
Wegovy is already available as an injection taken once a week. Wegovy in tablet form has now also been approved by the European Commission.
The pill contains the same active ingredient, semaglutide, but is taken once a day.
Although Wegovy pill has been approved in the EU, this does not mean it will become available at the same time across Europe. The manufacturer, Novo, has said it plans to launch the tablet in selected markets outside the US during the second half of 2026. It is not yet known exactly when it will become available in individual European countries, including the UK.
How much will Wegovy pill cost?
It is still too early to say how much Wegovy pill will cost in the UK or elsewhere in Europe. Pricing and any reimbursement or funding arrangements are decided separately in each country, so both the price and the amount people pay themselves may vary.
In the US, where Wegovy pill is already available, pricing information has been published. Prices in the US do not tell us what Wegovy pill will cost in the UK or Europe, but they give an indication of what people paying for the medication themselves in the US currently pay. The 1.5 mg dose costs $149 per month, the 4 mg dose costs $199 per month, and the 9 mg and 25 mg doses cost $299 per month. A month's treatment consists of 30 tablets.
These prices are based on the US market and are special cash prices offered by Novo, so they cannot be directly compared with what Wegovy pills may cost in the UK or elsewhere in Europe.

Are there other GLP-1 medications available as tablets?
